The Green Committee had a Vine Cutting Ceremony on National Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22nd 2009, at 12:30 p.m. The event took place in the School Cafeteria and everybody was welcome! This Ceremony officially kicked off the implementation of the School's Greening Plan, celebrating all that have been accomplished thus far and looking forward to a promising future. To see the invitation click on Ribbon Cutting

The Vine Cutting Ceremony turned out great! Our Cook-Wiss kids were very impressive leaded by our Science Teacher Ms. Abby Pelcyger. We counted with the presence of a representative from the Mayor's Office of Sustainability, a representative from Dr. Ackerman's Office, two representatives from Pennsylvania Horticultural Society "PHS", a representative from Councilman Jones's Office, "Star" newspaper with a freelance photographer, and several teachers, parents and students as well. We would like to thank everybody for their contribution to make this Green Committee event possible.

The local newspaper "Star" published an article about it, to read it please click on "Green Machine".

EARTH DAY BAGS PROJECT:

IMG_2135.JPG
Cook-Wissahickon kids did a fun project to celebrate "Earth Day" this week. They painted and decorated 220 paper bags!!! One local supermarket borrowed us the bags and 220 of our kids, from Pre-K to 7th grade, got to draw and paint Earth Day messages on them. We like to congratulate the kids for their great job and the amazing messages they put on the bags. They helped create environmental awareness by writing about different ways to take care of the Earth. We would also like to thank all the teachers that helped with this project and to Shoprite Supermarket on Ridge Ave. for their support!
